Description:
Baseodiscus delineatus is a common species of ribbon worm in the IRL.
It is typically a cream or yellow color, with orange to red longitudinal stripes
that run the length of the body. Typical lengths for males and females of this species are
3 inches and 8 inches
respectively.
Habitats:
Baseodiscus delineatus is
epibenthic, occurring in gravel, cobble, and shell of oyster reefs and marina
pilings in the intertidal zone. B.
delineatus
occurring
at Jim Island near Fort Pierce Inlet,
tolerates summer water temperatures in excess of 30 °C, and winter water
temperatures below 17 °C for short periods of time.
Range:
B. delineatus is a common species with wide distribution
throughout the Indian River Lagoon.
