Description:
The thick lucine, Lucina pectinata, reaches 2.5 inches in shell
length. The shell is ovate in shape, compressed, with concentric
ridges that are typically unequally spaced. Shell color is white, but
may be flushed with orange hues. Interior of shell is also white.
Lateral teeth, which are set to either side of the umbo, are strong.
Habitat:
Thick lucines inhabit the shallow subtidal zone. They are fairly
common in the Indian River Lagoon.
Range:
The thick lucine ranges from North Carolina through Florida and Texas to
Brazil.
