Main Pages:
The main pages of this guide are located along the left margin of the page.
Clicking any of these pages will bring you to a Contents page. For
example, clicking the Vertebrates main page brings you to a listing
of the vertebrate contents, including birds, fishes, mammals, etc.
Contents
Pages:
On the Contents pages, listings of Indian River Lagoon
species featured in this guide are easily located by clicking the group
names. Many of the groups listed in the Contents pages also
have sketches that
show anatomical features of the organisms described. These
sketches are accessed by clicking the thumbnail photos on the Contents
pages. Sketches will be especially helpful in the Invertebrates
pages, where readers may not necessarily be familiar with anatomical traits
used to identify and differentiate organisms.
Group Pages:
The Group pages are located under the Contents pages and show
the listing of Indian River Lagoon species featured in this guide. To view
a photo
of any particular species, simply click the thumbnail photos. To view
the species
description, which also includes information on relevant habitat, range, and
similarity to other species, click the highlighted species names.
Species
Pages:
The Species pages contain descriptions, identifying
photos, habitat, and range information. Many Species pages also
have links to the more detailed species information posted on the Indian
River Lagoon Species Inventory website (www.sms.si.edu/irlspec/index.htm).
Information on the IRL Species Inventory site is much wider in scope and
contains information on habitat and distribution, life history, population
biology, community ecology, physical tolerances, reproduction, and other
biologically pertinent information.
