Directions to the Smithsonian Marine Station

(Please Note: The Smithsonian Marine Station is a research facility and working laboratory. Public tours are currently offered only on the third Thursday of the month at our facility at 701 Seaway Drive (see What's New?). However, we maintain the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit at the St. Lucie County Marine Center at 420 Seaway Drive for the enjoyment and education of the public. )

From Fort Pierce

Travel north on US Route 1 through the city of Fort Pierce. Make a right turn onto Seaway Drive and our facility will be on your right just over the bridge and immediately past a vacant lot.

From Vero Beach (about 14 miles; 20 minutes)

Travel south from Vero Beach on US Route 1 to the traffic light at Seaway Drive in Fort Pierce. Make a left turn onto Seaway Drive. Our facility will be on your right just over the bridge and immediately past a vacant lot.

From West Palm Beach airport (about 70 miles; 1.5 hours)

From Palm Beach International Airport take I-95 North (toward Daytona) to Exit #129, Route 70 East. Follow Route 70 (which becomes Virginia Avenue) until it ends at U.S. Highway #1 (approximately 4.2 miles). At U.S. Highway #1, make a left turn and travel north to Seaway Drive. Turn right onto Seaway Drive and our facility will be on your right just over the bridge and immediately past a vacanat lot.

OR

Take the Florida Turnpike North (toward Orlando) for 54 miles to the Fort Pierce Exit, #152. From the toll booth at Exit 152, turn right onto Route 70 East. Follow Route 70 (which becomes Virginia Avenue) until it ends at U.S. Highway #1. At U.S. Highway #1, make a left turn and travel north to Seaway Drive. Turn right onto Seaway Drive and our facility will be on your right just over the bridge and immediately past a vacant lot.

From Miami airport (about 150 miles; 3.5 hours)

Take the Florida Turnpike North and follow the directions given above for West Palm Beach.

OR

Take I-95 North (toward Daytona) and follow the directions given above for West Palm Beach.

From Melbourne airport (about 55 miles; 1 hour)

Follow signs to get to I-95 South. Go south on I-95 to the Indrio Road Exit, #138. Turn left as you exit and go east on Indrio Road for 6.4 miles, to US Highway #1 at the traffic light. Turn right onto U.S. Highway #1, travel south to the fifth traffic light, and turn left onto Seaway Drive. Our facility will be on your right just over the bridge and immediately past a vacant lot.

From Orlando airport (about 120 miles; 2 hours)

Take the Beeline Expressway (Route 528) East to I-95 South. Travel south on I-95 and follow the directions given above for Melbourne.
